138 pages, very slight wear, housed in a chemise and slipcase. Wagner-Camp 210, Howes C451, Graff 746, "Clarke was a member of the Hampden Mining Company and sailed from New York in January 1849. He reached the mining districts of California via Central Mexico, Arizona, the Gila River, and Los Angeles in August. He engaged in the mining enterprise until December, when he went to San Francisco for the winter. He spent most of 1850 in the mercantile business in Sacramento and Marysville until returning home in 1851."
