Preface written by Elizabeth for this special issue. Original title when published in 1892; Custer's Last Battle By Edward S. Godfrey Brigadier-General, United States Army Formerly One of General Custer's Troop Commanders, Illustrated By Frederick Remington and From Photographs. Godfrey states that he was asked by West Point officers to write his account in 1879. In 1886 he was able to get former hostile Indians to talk to him about the battle. Along with his interviews, he used his notes, diary and letters for the article. Elizabeth Custer's dated June 1921 are interesting. Dustin 119, Luther 60.
