"Judge Isaac Foster, who crossed the plains in 1849 in an ox team; went back to Illinois by sailing vessel; and again crossed with mule team and wagon in 1852, to settle in San Jose, California." Mintz 161, "Contains journals of the Foster family, 1849, 1852, 1853 & 1857. The 1849 journal is by Isaac Foster who left Plainfield, Illinois on the 26th of march and returned from California, sometime later, by way of Panama." The first edition was published in 1889 with 46 pages and three journal accounts. This second edition adds the 1857 trip. Graff 1390, Howes 292, Eberstadt Modern Overlands 428.
